Kolkata: CPM was "learning from people" and "listening to their criticism" to rebuild itself in order to stage a "significant comeback" in Bengal, party general secretary MA Baby said on Tuesday.
Baby, who was present at CPM's two-day state conference, said the party was also mobilising various "political forces" to develop a broad-based "political arrangement" in Bengal. "We don't even mind learning from our adversaries if there is any point in what they are saying and engage in course correction," he said.
In an article on Monday, Baby said CPM was rebuilding and expanding itself in Bengal and making all-out efforts to regain confidence of people. He said the party would work among rural and urban poor and organise them.
"We will work towards mobilising all sections of society, various political parties and political forces to develop broad-based political arrangements," Baby said on Tuesday.
In its review of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, CPM claimed that since 2021, Left unity had remained absent in Bengal as well as across India. While it focused on the larger Left unity, the stress was on increasing independent strength.
Left mass organisations had on Sunday pointed to a very poor show during elections despite a significant turnout of supporters at rallies. Baby said the Brigade rally showed that "the influence of democratic and Left forces is significant on the people in Bengal. We will have to see how this will get reflected in the elections."
Left Front's vote share in 2024 Lok Sabha polls declined to 6.33% from 7.44% in 2019.
Reiterating the need to fight the BJP-led govt at Centre and in other states, Baby said Bengal played an important role in fostering the party's independent strength. "The state conference addressed political and organisational tasks to be taken in the state. Trinamool govt is corrupt and anti-people. Communal forces are also active, RSS is very active. We will handle the situation effectively," Baby said.
